Wow, 2025 was such a great year for movies! We had these huge blockbusters, but also a ton of films that critics really loved. I’m still thinking about Ne Zha 2, which was a massive hit, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another – seriously, that film deserved all the awards it got! The best part is, a lot of these films are finally showing up on streaming now, which is amazing. In fact, one of the biggest movies from last year just dropped on Peacock, so I know what I’m watching tonight!
The movie Wicked: For Good was a huge success, earning over $533 million worldwide and becoming the second-highest-grossing film based on The Wizard of Oz and the best-performing musical movie adaptation ever, only behind the 2024 film. It was also one of the year’s biggest hits. Now, you can watch it on Peacock starting March 20th! The streaming version includes a sing-along option and commentary from the director, Jon M. Chu. Wicked continues the story from the popular 2003 stage musical, with Ariana Grande returning as Glinda, who is trying to live up to her image as the good witch, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, who is fighting against the unfair Wizard after being forced into exile.
Wicked: For Good Is a Cinematic Powerhouse
After the visually exciting first half, the movie For Good takes a more serious turn, exploring deeper emotions and giving the characters more depth. It skillfully continues the story from the original film, showing the difficult consequences of past events, particularly in the complex relationship between Elphaba and Glinda, which builds to a dramatic climax. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both give impressive performances with memorable singing, and the film is packed with catchy musical numbers.
Critics had a mixed reaction to the movie, giving it a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is lower than the 88% ‘Certified Fresh’ score of the first film. Nicole Drum from ComicBook gave it 3 out of 5 stars, noting that while the second half wasn’t as strong as the first, the movie is beautiful to look at, features excellent performances and music, and showcases Ariana Grande at her best. However, audiences loved it, giving it a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – even higher than the first film’s 88%. Overall, as the conclusion to the two-part movie adaptation of the popular Broadway musical, it’s a rewarding and enjoyable experience, especially for fans of the stage show and the first film.
What’s New on Peacock?
This March, Peacock added several popular movies to its streaming library, including 8 Mile, The Big Lebowski, Dallas Buyers Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, John Wick: Chapter 4, Schindler’s List, and Sonic the Hedgehog. One of the last big additions is Wicked: For Good, followed by The Wild Robot on March 24th and a few more films on March 31st.
