Okay, so one of the really expensive 3DS games is finally starting to come down in price, which is awesome! Ever since the 3DS eShop closed, physical copies of some games have gotten seriously pricey. Most games still cost around $20-$40, but a lot have jumped way over $100. If you’ve been waiting to snag one of the expensive titles, it looks like prices are finally going to start dropping soon, which is a huge relief for us collectors!
This week, Nintendo launched Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on Nintendo Switch. This new game builds on the popular Tomodachi Life by letting players create and customize their Mii characters and enjoy fun, lighthearted adventures together on a tropical island. While it might not be Nintendo’s biggest release of 2026, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is expected to be a hit with dedicated fans.
The release of Living the Dream is significant because Tomodachi Life has become very popular and hard to find. Originally only available on the 3DS, the only way to play it officially is to buy a used copy. This has driven up prices considerably, with the game selling for over $150 on average in 2024. While prices have come down slightly, it still consistently sells for between $100 and $110.

Now that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is available, demand for the original 3DS version should decrease. This should cause prices to fall, making Tomodachi Life more affordable. While it might not happen immediately, I’d be very surprised if the game still cost more than $100 on average by the end of 2026.
It’s possible that if a new game, Living the Dream, doesn’t appeal to players as much as Tomodachi Life, demand for the older game could increase and its price could go up even more. However, this seems unlikely, as similar situations in the past have usually been good for game collectors. If you’re looking to buy Tomodachi Life, it’s worth watching how the price changes over the next few months.
