Since its debut in 1997, the One Piece series has consistently gotten better, establishing itself as a truly iconic franchise. 2025 was a particularly strong year, bringing significant changes to both the anime and manga, and featuring a highly anticipated story arc. The anime is undergoing its biggest change yet: starting next year, it will switch to a seasonal release schedule with 26 episodes per year, ending its remarkable 26-year streak of continuous weekly episodes.
The manga recently revealed some of its biggest secrets during the Elbaph arc. Even though the anime finished airing on December 28, 2025, many fans thought the year was over in terms of major events. However, the franchise is ending 2025 with a special celebration: the birthday of Gol D. Roger, the legendary pirate who started the Great Pirate Era and inspired countless people to search for the ultimate treasure, the One Piece.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

As a huge One Piece fan, I was so excited to see the official accounts celebrating Gol D. Roger’s birthday! He’s the guy who started it all – the Pirate King who launched the Great Pirate Era and changed the whole world of the series. They didn’t just share one image, though! They dropped two amazing visuals. One was a cool updated design of Roger, but the other? A brand new illustration of him with his sword, looking totally fierce and ready for a fight. It really captures what it means to be the Pirate King, honestly. It was a fantastic way to honor such an important character!
2025 was a significant year for the character Gol D. Roger in One Piece. The series explored his past through flashbacks to the God Valley Incident, giving fans a deeper look at his life and how he became the Pirate King. These scenes showed a younger, more carefree Roger, and revealed a surprising detail: even he admired Shakky. This helped differentiate him from Luffy and added a new dimension to his character. As the story heads toward its conclusion, we can expect to learn even more about Roger in the future. For now, One Piece ends 2025 by celebrating his birthday.
