Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga. The Elbaph Arc in One Piece is currently very intense, with the battle against the Holy Knights taking a surprising turn after Imu shows up. Imu’s arrival brings the story closer to revealing the secrets of the Void Century. Although Luffy and Loki initially helped Elbaph gain an advantage, Imu’s appearance quickly turned the tide. For the first time in eight years, readers have seen what Imu looks like and gotten a small preview of their abilities. In the latest chapter, 1182, the Holy Knights are trying to escape with the kidnapped children, but a shocking twist occurs when Zaza, the God of Rain, appears to help them.
Despite being a creation of the author’s imagination, the character Zaza possesses immense and frightening power. The author, Eiichiro Oda, specifically requested a scary and impressive portrayal of her, as shared by music composer Kohei Tanaka in a now-deleted post. A fan, @DawnStussy, captured a screenshot of the post and translated it, further fueling excitement about Zaza’s eventual anime appearance, even though it’s still a ways off. Oda has high hopes for how the anime staff will bring this powerful character to life.
Who Is Zaza in One Piece?

The God of Rain first appeared in a memory sequence during the Skypiea Arc in chapter 287. In this scene, the daughter of Kalgara willingly offered herself as a sacrifice to a serpent as part of a traditional ritual meant to help her people. During the ritual, the people of Skypiea prayed to the Gods of the Sun, Rain, Forest, and Earth. Later, in the Wano Country Saga, the Sun God, Nika, reappeared as a symbol of hope for liberation.
Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation represents hope, taking on the form of Nika. Meanwhile, in the Elbaph Arc, Zaza’s powers come from a Devil Fruit that creates creatures from nightmares. The World Nobles are equally afraid of the God of Rain and Nika. Interestingly, because Mary Geoise is above the clouds, it never experiences rain – a phenomenon unique to the world below.
Similar to how Nika shows up during liberation ceremonies, Zaza appears during rainmaking rituals. The form Zaza took recently seems to have come from Killingham’s mind, as the story hasn’t yet revealed her true appearance to anyone. An old mural in Elbaph again referenced the four Gods, suggesting that the Forest and Earth Gods will also be introduced in the final part of the story.
