One Piece May Have Finally Introduced a Second Sun God Nika

The newest chapter of One Piece seems to confirm there’s more to the Sun God Nika than previously thought, possibly even a second being embodying this figure. Ever since Luffy unlocked his Gear Fifth form, fans have speculated about his connection to Nika, believing he is the god, or at least represents him. The story has revealed that giants deeply revere this god, and the current arc on Egghead island hinted at a major reveal about Nika. This reveal suggests a new understanding of the god, challenging the common belief that Nika is simply a kind figure who helps giants.

During the recent reveal about Harley, it was also explained that the Sun God Nika is connected to destruction. Since Loki has always represented this destructive side, fans have started to think there might be a darker version of the god. Chapter 1179 of One Piece seems to confirm this. The major reveal of Nerona Imu, and the first clear look at his true form, strongly suggests he embodies this second, more destructive interpretation of the Sun God that the story has been foreshadowing.

One Piece‘s Main Villain Could be the Second Sun God

In One Piece chapter 1179, titled “Nerona Imu Descends,” the enigmatic Imu finally makes a personal appearance in Elbaph, and his appearance is revealed for the first time. He has white hair, similar to Luffy’s Gear 5 form, and is surrounded by dark clouds that echo the white clouds seen with Luffy’s transformation. This, combined with music that mirrors Luffy’s Gear 5, hints that Imu might be a darker counterpart to the Sun God Nika. The chapter also showcases Imu’s strange power to transform buildings into monstrous creatures.

This is very similar to how Gear 5 works, where Luffy can create anything he envisions. Adding to this, Imu’s goal of destroying the world while protecting Mary Geoise fits the title ‘Lord of Destruction,’ hinting at a more sinister side to this character. Considering the centuries-old connection between Joy Boy and Imu, it’s even more likely that Imu is somehow linked to the figure of Nika.

Imu might be a dark mirror to another powerful character, creating a balanced opposition like yin and yang, and enriching the story’s history. While this hasn’t been officially confirmed by the author of One Piece, it would fit perfectly if Imu represented a darker side of the Sun God. This would raise the stakes for the final conflict and make the upcoming battles even more thrilling.
