In recent years, One Piece has become a global phenomenon, and a surprising appearance in the first episodes of The Boys’ final season highlights its reach. Originally a hugely popular manga series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump for almost thirty years, One Piece has exploded in popularity worldwide thanks to projects like the live-action adaptation on Netflix. However, fans may be surprised by just how widespread its appeal has become.
Recently, One Piece has been gaining more popularity, especially with Netflix working on the third season of its live-action series. This momentum got another boost when The Boys – another hit comic-turned-TV show – included a subtle nod to One Piece. In the premiere episode of The Boys‘ final season on Prime Video, fans spotted the Straw Hat Pirates’ logo hidden in the background. It’s a fun Easter egg for fans of both series!

The latest episode of The Boys begins with Billy Butcher discovering where Starlight has been hiding – an abandoned school covered in artwork. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice a logo for the Straw Hat crew from One Piece among the drawings, officially connecting the two shows. This is a neat detail, as despite their different styles, both The Boys and One Piece explore similar themes at their heart.
Both One Piece and The Boys are set in worlds where individuals have extraordinary abilities, and both feature a powerful, controlling government. In One Piece, Luffy and his crew pursue freedom and a legendary treasure, often clashing with the World Government when their liberty is threatened. The Boys takes a different approach, focusing on humanity’s last stand against an overwhelmingly powerful enemy intent on destruction. Ultimately, both stories depict battles against seemingly insurmountable global forces.
What’s Next for One Piece?

Fans of One Piece have a lot to be excited about in the coming years. The manga continues with weekly new chapters from Eiichiro Oda, and the anime is back with new episodes covering the Elbaph arc. Plus, a third season of the live-action series is planned for release on Netflix next year, and Netflix is also working on a complete anime remake for the future. To top it off, an official One Piece spinoff anime will be released later this summer.
The popular show The Boys is beginning its last season on Prime Video. While the main series is wrapping up, the franchise is expanding with several spinoffs currently in development. Though this chapter is ending, it’s just the beginning of a larger universe for The Boys.
