After a long wait, the third season of One-Punch Man has arrived, but many fans are disappointed. The first season was animated by Studio Madhouse, and the second by JC Staff, which faced criticism. Viewers had hoped the extra development time would improve the show, but many now feel the third season doesn’t match the quality of animation seen in previous seasons of One-Punch Man.
The second episode of One-Punch Man season three features another quick battle between Garou and Saitama, with Saitama winning easily with just one punch. After his defeat, Garou is evaluated by two members of the Monster Association to determine if he’s worthy of joining them. While the fight animation is decent in parts, some key moments, like Garou sliding down a hill, disappointed many viewers. This episode shows that the animation studio, JC Staff, can handle the action scenes in One-Punch Man, but still needs improvement. Fan reactions to the episode are included below.

People defending Season 3 of One Punch Man are forgetting how poorly it’s been made. The animation is shockingly bad – it honestly looks worse than something you could create on a phone. Even anime considered just okay, like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia, have noticeably better animation quality. #OnePunchManSeason3

One-Punch Man’s Director Speaks
Earlier this year, the director of One-Punch Man season three, Shinpei Nagai, shared the challenges the anime faced during its production. He explained they were trying a new approach to animation—combining 3D and 2D techniques—to speed up the process, even if just by a little. Nagai apologized for not being more open about this and assured fans the team was working hard. While he couldn’t reveal specific production details, he said he’d answer questions as much as possible.
Animator Vincent Cansard recently explained that while many criticize studio JC Staff, the situation is more complicated than it appears. He believes the production committees overseeing projects often bear responsibility, and JC Staff is simply trying to navigate a challenging industry. According to Cansard, the studio is focused on survival in a particularly difficult Japanese animation landscape, and is currently facing significant hurdles.
JC Staff hasn’t officially addressed the animation issues fans have noticed in the third season of One-Punch Man, but viewers are hoping they can improve it in the remaining episodes. The animation during Garou’s fight suggests the studio is capable of delivering strong action sequences when needed.
