Oprah Reveals Use of GLP-1 Medications Led to Sobriety

Oprah Winfrey is feeling better than ever.

The media executive has openly discussed using GLP-1 medications to help her lose weight, and she recently shared a surprising side effect: she’s stopped drinking alcohol.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I read an interview with Oprah, and she confessed she used to be a huge tequila person, just like me! She said she actually had seventeen shots in one night! Seventeen! I mean, can you even imagine? It’s amazing to hear even Oprah went through a phase like that. It just makes her even more relatable, honestly. I’m obsessed with this story!

After taking GLP-1 medications, the 71-year-old woman says she no longer has the ability to outdrink everyone she’s with.

“The fact that I no longer even have a desire for it,” she noted, “is pretty amazing.”

That amazing feeling has carried over into almost every facet of her life.

Oprah, who revealed in 2023 that she was using a GLP-1 medication, said she feels healthier and more energetic than ever before. She explained she’s stopped being so hard on herself and is almost unrecognizable as the person she used to be – but in a good way, because she’s genuinely happy now.

She also shared that she has more energy to spend with the people she cares about, especially her partner, Stedman Graham, who she described as consistently supportive.

“I feel like I have more to give to everybody,” she added. “I’m just more open to all.”

There’s also no longer the shame Oprah felt over her struggle to maintain weight loss.

I intentionally didn’t use the word ‘obesity’ because it felt judgmental, like it implied a lack of self-control,” she said. “I realized it’s not that overeating leads to obesity, but rather that obesity causes overeating. Understanding that was incredibly liberating for me as an adult.

And for those with similar struggles, she has a simple message: It’s not your fault.

She explained she wants people to stop feeling guilty about things they can’t change, like their genetics or upbringing. Her goal is to empower people with information so they can make informed decisions about their health, whether that means taking medication or continuing with a diet plan.

For more celebrities who have pulled back the curtain on using GLP-1 medication, read on.

Jonathan shared that he’s in the best shape of his life after losing weight and starting Pilates at Solidcore. He said, ‘I’ve always wanted abs, and I finally have them!’ He’s feeling so good about his body that he’s been showing it off more often.

Even after losing 70 pounds with medication, Jonathan continued to advocate for body positivity.

They explained they believe in body neutrality – the idea that your value as a person isn’t tied to how you look. Everyone deserves love and appreciation, regardless of their body type.

The comedian started taking the medication Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes in late 2022. She revealed her significant weight loss in May 2025.

Meghan Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, bonded closely after the birth of their son, Riley, in 2021. They took on the intense 75 Hard challenge and successfully completed it, as Meghan shared on their podcast, Workin’ On It. Afterwards, they started hearing from friends and even doctors who were using medications like Mounjaro and Ozempic.

Both Daryl and the singer decided to start with the smallest effective dose of Monjaro, and they’re combining it with exercise and healthy eating. As the singer explained, they’re doing everything together as they begin this health journey.

Kendra Wilkinson, known from the show Girls Next Door, tried a weight loss injection, but only used it once. She announced on Instagram in April 2025 that she’d started the shots, then quickly added she was stopping and discarding it.

The model said she decided it wasn’t worth risking her health. She’d heard about too many people getting seriously sick – needing emergency room visits and even surgery – and wanted no part of it, especially as a mother of two.

In March 2025, the host of the Golden Globes spoke out in support of Ozempic, encouraging people to feel comfortable discussing their use of the medication.

She enthusiastically shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she fully supports anyone considering Ozempic. ‘I’m all for it,’ she said, adding, ‘I have no problem with anyone wanting to try it.’

She explained that she wants to encourage open conversation about weight loss, as she believes there’s a lot of unnecessary shame surrounding it. She feels this shame actually comes from people who prefer her to stay larger, and are upset by her progress. They may feel threatened by her transformation, seeing her confidence and personality as something they lack.

The model stated in December 2024 that she previously used Ozempic, but she discontinued it when she began competing on Dancing With the Stars the prior autumn.

Before finding a solution that worked for her, she had a difficult experience with Ozempic. “I really disliked it,” she told TopMob News. “It made me feel nauseous whenever I tried to eat, and sometimes I couldn’t eat anything at all. My body just didn’t react well to it.”

The star of The Real Housewives of New York City addressed rumors about her noticeable transformation between seasons 14 and 15.

As a longtime fan, I’ve noticed it’s just become second nature for people to speculate about what reality stars have done – whether it’s surgery, or if they’re using something like Ozempic. But honestly, she really hates Ozempic! She’s been very clear she’d never inject herself with it.

After fans on social media wondered if Lizzo had used the drug Ozempic to lose weight, sparked by a photo showing her slimmer physique, the singer responded with a video. The video featured a popular sound clip from the movie Django Unchained, where Christoph Waltz’s character says, “It’s like a reward.”

Later, though, the musician admitted she gave some injectibles a shot.

Lizzo explained to Trisha Paytas on the Just Trish podcast in June 2025 why she stopped taking GLP-1 medications sooner than expected. She said Ozempic helps with weight loss by reducing appetite, but if you can control your eating and feel full naturally, you’ll get the same results.

Kate Moss‘ little sis revealed why getting on Ozempic was “the worst decision I ever made,” during a September 2024 episode of her Dream On podcast.

The model became sick after accidentally taking a dose of medication intended for someone much larger – around 220 pounds or more – and had to be hospitalized.

She explained that she became so severely dehydrated she had a seizure, which she described as the most frightening experience of her life. A friend had to hold her feet to keep her still, and she remembers her face and body becoming extremely tense and clenched during the ordeal.

In April 2024, Jon Gosselin, known from the show Jon & Kate Plus 8, told Page Six that he lost 32 pounds over two months by using semaglutide injections – the generic version of the drug Ozempic.

“You know what’s annoying?” he said. “The regret of not starting it 10 years ago.”

She emphasized that she would never criticize anyone for making that life choice.

In August 2023, the actor, known for his role on 30 Rock, shared on Today With Hoda and Jenna that he lost weight using Ozempic, which reduced his appetite.

In March 2024, he revealed a surprising update about his health. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he joked, “I’ve actually managed to eat more than Ozempic allows!” and explained that he’d gained 40 pounds.

He later told TopMob News he was just kidding about his previous statement, but also shared, “Ozempic worked well for me and I’m happy I used it.”

She revealed she’s been asked how she’s managed to stay in shape by many women her age, and she honestly responded that she’s used the drug Ozempic, which she believes is a very effective weight loss tool if accessible.

During a July 2024 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star stated she doesn’t use Ozempic. She jokingly clarified, “I’m on Mounjaro, okay?” and added that she’s happy with her current weight and has plenty of energy.

A former star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta shared that she wasn’t successful in losing weight using the medication she tried.

She explained that a certain treatment didn’t reduce her appetite at all. Unlike some people who lost their desire to eat, she continued to enjoy appetizers, a full meal, and even dessert. She admitted that seeing others succeed with the same treatment while it didn’t work for her was discouraging. It left her feeling down and wondering what was different about her.

I’m not a medical expert, but I’ve been following the discussions around different treatments, and it’s clear what’s proving effective and what isn’t,” she said in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Ozempic seems to have both positive effects and potential risks.

Former Little Mix member Perrie Edwards, who has previously discussed her battle with anorexia, said it was hard to ignore online comments about her weight and rumors she was using the drug Ozempic.

In an August 2025 interview with The Guardian, Jade admitted she constantly struggles with the temptation to try Ozempic. While she understands why others use it, she worries that, given her past with eating disorders, it could be a dangerous path for her.

The actress from Beverly Hills, 90210 reportedly used a drug to lose weight after having her son, Beau, in 2017.

She mentioned on her podcast in April 2024 that Ozempic wasn’t effective for her, but Mounjaro was, and she was able to lose weight with it.

As a lifestyle expert, I always emphasize that medication is incredibly personal. What works for one person simply won’t work for another, and it’s crucial to remember that. We shouldn’t ever feel pressured to use medication just to achieve a certain aesthetic or look – it’s about health, not vanity. I shared this with Francesca Amiker at TopMob News, because it’s a message I truly believe in.

Raven said, “Take care of business, but please make sure the medicine goes to those who really need it.”

In September 2023, the host of Talk U.K. shared that she lost 42 pounds after using the medication Ozempic earlier that year.

She told TopMob News that the decision is entirely personal. She also clarified that using something to aid weight loss isn’t shameful, and is perfectly acceptable.

She added, “We don’t have to bulls–t.”

Sharon’s daughter has also weighed in on the Ozempic trend.

“It’s fantastic,” the former star of Fashion Police told TopMob News in January 2024. “There are so many ways to lose weight – why not choose one that’s more enjoyable than just exercising?”

Kate Winslet, known for her role in Titanic and previously scrutinized by the tabloids for her weight, recently spoke about the current focus on weight loss.

In a March 2024 interview with The New York Times Magazine, Kate confessed she wasn’t familiar with Ozempic, saying, “I really don’t know what it is. All I’ve heard is that it’s a pill some people are using.”

“Oh, my God,” Kate remarked after learning about the injectable. “This sounds terrible.”

I was so impressed to hear that my favorite, the star of The Hills, lost 22 pounds naturally in December 2023! She made it clear she didn’t use Ozempic, and honestly, I admire that so much. She told Page Six that she believes there are no easy routes to success, and she wouldn’t even consider using a drug like that. She didn’t want to call anyone out, but she was very firm about it not being something she’d ever do, and I totally get it. It’s inspiring to see someone achieve their goals the healthy way!

Heidi said she’s looking for something sustainable and doesn’t mind putting in the effort to make it work.

During her June 8, 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the Trainwreck star openly criticized celebrities for being dishonest about using Ozempic to lose weight.

She said it seems like everyone is trying Ozempic, and people are being dishonest about it. “They’ll say they’re just eating smaller portions,” she told Andy Cohen, “but that’s not true. If they’ve lost weight, it’s because they’re using Ozempic or had some kind of cosmetic procedure. They should just be honest about it.”

Okay, so Amy Schumer just gets it, you know? She’s always so honest, and she just said the most amazing thing! She was talking about being open about stuff, and she was like, ‘When I had liposuction, I told people I had liposuction!’ Like, yes! Just be real! I love that she’s so upfront and doesn’t pretend, it’s so refreshing. It’s like, own it, girl! I’m seriously obsessed with how real she is.

She shared that she quickly became interested in Ozempic in 2022, but ultimately stopped taking the medication, which is typically used for Type 2 diabetes. She explained that it interfered with her ability to enjoy time with her son, Gene, making it unsustainable for her to continue.

I remember being too sick to play with my son,” Schumer said. “I was really thin at the time, and he was throwing a ball at me, but I just didn’t have the strength to participate.

Forget winter, a hot take is coming.

The Game of Thrones alum was not shy when it came to sharing her opinion about Ozempic and its advertisements.

On April 5, 2023, the actress shared a post on her Instagram Story from writer Sophie Vershbow. Vershbow’s tweet criticized ads for Ozempic, a weight-loss drug, that were displayed in the Times Square subway station, calling them offensive. Vershbow shared photos of the ads, which included slogans like “One shot to lose weight” and “A weekly shot to lose weight.”

Turner adding her own commentary, writing, “WTF.”

Novo Nordisk, the company that makes Ozempic, has stated that the drug is not currently approved by the FDA for long-term weight loss.

Novo Nordisk, the maker of Ozempic, acknowledges that some doctors are prescribing the drug for weight loss, but the company doesn’t promote or encourage using it for purposes other than those officially approved. They are committed to following all U.S. laws and regulations regarding how they market their products. Novo Nordisk also states they believe doctors are carefully considering each patient’s specific health needs when deciding on the best treatment.

Comedian Chelsea Handler is speaking out about her experience with Ozempic. She says her doctor prescribed the medication for anti-aging purposes without fully explaining what it was.

I was so surprised when she mentioned it on the January 25th, 2023 episode of Call Her Daddy! She basically said if I ever wanted to lose just a little weight – around five pounds – this was something that could help. I honestly didn’t even realize I was part of it before she brought it up.

But while she tried the drug, Handler noted that she didn’t like how it made her feel.

She remembered returning from vacation and immediately using the medication. A few days later, while having lunch with a friend, the friend mentioned feeling sick and explained she was taking Ozempic. She realized she was feeling unwell too, but initially attributed it to jet lag from her trip to Spain.

Handler eventually stopped taking the medication because she didn’t actually need it. She shared any leftover doses with friends.

She admitted to giving Ozempic to around four or five friends, explaining she decided against using it herself because she thought it was unnecessary. She described having friends come to her house to receive injections, scheduling appointments throughout the day.

Khloe Kardashian clapped back when commenters on Instagram speculated that she was taking Ozempic.

Kardashian defended her dedication to fitness in a January 2023 post, explaining she works out five days a week, starting at 6 a.m. She asked people to stop making assumptions about her and expressed disappointment that negativity continued even at the start of the new year.
