Warning: This article contains spoilers for Beef season 2.
Oscar Isaac has spoken about the unexpected celebrity appearances in the second season of Beef, and shared how much it meant to him to perform with a band he’s long been a fan of.
The newest installments of this comedic drama are now available on Netflix. They follow Josh (Isaac) and his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan), a country club manager and his wife, who are being blackmailed by two younger coworkers and are seeking revenge.
A married couple is worried a video taken by Ashley and Austin could harm their reputation and upset their wealthy clients, some of whom are well-known celebrities.
In an interview with TopMob, Isaac discussed the celebrity cameos in Beef’s second season, explaining they felt like creator Lee Sung Jin—who also goes by ‘Sonny’—drawing from real life to add significant emotional impact to the show.
The show features a memorable appearance by the British band Hot Chip, whom the character Josh greatly admires and even gets to perform with in a dreamlike concert scene. This was particularly special for the actor Isaac, who fondly remembers listening to Hot Chip’s debut album.
He shared that Hot Chip was a band they’d discussed, and one that had a significant impact on him personally. He recalled receiving their CD around 2007 and listening to it constantly.
Being able to convince them to participate felt like something beyond just the task itself – it was really exciting. When Sonny confirmed, ‘It’s happening,’ that made it even better.
Isaac explained that the scene shows Josh desperately clinging to a memory, which is powerful because even at his peak, he understands it’s not real.
Here’s your guide to all the celebrity cameos in Beef season 2.
