While Project Hail Mary is a great new hard sci-fi film, the genre already boasts many even more impressive classics. These top hard sci-fi movies cover a wide range of stories, from adventures in deep space and future Earth, to modern tales of encountering aliens.

About ten years ago, Stephen King was deeply impressed by a different film: Robert Eggers’ The Witch. It first appeared at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015, but became widely available in 2016, and King enthusiastically recommended it. He described it on X (formerly Twitter) as a movie that was both suspenseful and intellectually stimulating, as well as powerfully affecting.

As a film and TV fan, what I really appreciate about The Pitt is how it doesn’t shy away from showing its characters’ flaws. It’s so refreshing! The show doesn’t try to make its doctors seem perfect or like superheroes, and honestly, that’s what makes them so heroic. It adds a layer of realism and complexity that really draws you in, instead of creating these untouchable figures.

As a huge fan of zombie films, I think Train to Busan really showcases just how creative the genre can be. It takes the classic zombie apocalypse and puts it on a speeding train, trapping a group of people with the undead. That simple but brilliant idea, combined with the incredibly tense atmosphere, is why it quickly became one of the most highly-regarded zombie movies ever made, and honestly, it still holds up as a fantastic film today.

No one could have predicted the shocking ending of Will Trent season 4, episode 15, “The Blank Expanse Of Nothing.” As Ormewood and Faith investigated their current case, Wilbur pursued a lead from his conversation with Adelaide. Meanwhile, Amanda was secretly working with the FBI to uncover information about the Commander, a key figure connected to James Ulster’s cult. Sadly, this put her in grave danger, and the episode ended with Wilbur discovering Amanda had been stabbed multiple times.
