Paramount and the filmmakers behind the Paranormal Activity series have shared some updates about the next movie. They’ve announced when the eighth film will be released, but are still keeping the plot details a secret.
Paranormal Activity 8 sets release date
The next Paranormal Activity movie, the eighth in the series, is scheduled to come out on May 21, 2027. Ian Tuason, who previously directed the award-winning film Undertone, will be directing. Undertone won an audience award at the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival.
Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster are partnering to create and fund this new movie. James Wan and Jason Blum from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster are producing it, and Oren Peli, who created the original ‘Paranormal Activity,’ is also a producer. Michael Clear and Judson Scott from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, plus Steven Schneider from Room 101 Inc., are executive producers on the project.
James Wan, a long-time fan of the original Paranormal Activity film, expressed his excitement about continuing the franchise and building on its history of suspenseful, found-footage horror. He’s eager to contribute to the next chapter. Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions shared that partnering with Wan for this new iteration of the series, which launched Blumhouse’s success, is a dream come true (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap).
As a film buff, I still remember when Paramount dropped the original Paranormal Activity back in 2007. It’s crazy to think they made it for just $15,000, but it went on to make around $193-194 million worldwide! It really set a new standard for how profitable a movie could be and totally changed the found-footage horror genre. And the franchise as a whole? It’s made over $900 million globally across seven films – a huge success story!
Details about the story of Paranormal Activity 8 haven’t been revealed yet. Paramount Pictures will handle the movie’s release in theaters. Currently, Warner Bros. is the only other major studio planning a wide release on May 21, 2027, with the animated film Bad Fairies, starring Cynthia Erivo.
