Patrick Mahomes Addresses His Dad’s 2024 DWI Arrest

For Patrick Mahomes, the days leading up to Super Bowl 2024 weren’t all that super.

A week before facing off against the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback’s father, Pat Mahomes Sr., was arrested for the third time on DWI charges. As he contemplated this situation, Patrick admitted that his father’s legal troubles at the time significantly diverted his attention from the upcoming important game.

In his appearance on ESPN’s The Kingdom on August 20, Patrick explained, “It transformed into a story, which led to questions about it. I believe that realizing it caused him pain made him aware that change was necessary in his actions.

Senior Pat seemed to concur, expressing that for Patrick, aged 29, having to respond to questions about him might have been the most mortifying experience he had encountered throughout his entire life.

And as a former MLB player, he knew just how important mental focus is to an athlete.

Immediately afterward, he was the one I phoned, and I expressed my apologies for interrupting his time and distracting him,” the 55-year-old reminisced.

On February 3, 2024, Pat Sr. was apprehended in Tyler, Texas. Remarkably, his son emerged victorious in the Super Bowl towards the end of that month. Subsequently, he admitted guilt for driving under the influence, as reported by NBC News.

In October 2024, he spent ten days in jail for the reported offense, as indicated by county records that TopMob News acquired.

In response to questions about his drinking habit on “The Kingdom”, Pat Sr. stated, “It was just something I’ve been accustomed to, it’s part of the game.” He elaborated, “I used to go out, enjoy some social activities, and sometimes I found myself in places where I shouldn’t have been.

Reflecting on the past events, Patrick’s wife Brittany Mahomes – mother of Sterling (4), Bronze (2), and Golden (7 months) with the NFL star – feels that her husband Pat Sr.’s recent arrest served as a wake-up call, prompting him to reassess his lifestyle.
