Paul Greengrass, the director behind the popular Bourne films, is returning to the action thriller genre. He’s known for revitalizing the genre with his Bourne sequels starring Matt Damon, and his innovative style – particularly the use of a shaky camera and realistic action – had a major impact on blockbusters. In fact, the 2006 James Bond reboot, Casino Royale, clearly took inspiration from his work. Now, Greengrass is taking on a new, currently undisclosed project for 20th Century.
Following the success of his Oscar-nominated film The Lost Bus, Paul Greengrass is returning to action thrillers with a new project called Test Drive. Deadline reports that Greengrass is in talks to direct the film for 20th Century Studios. The studio acquired the script from Matt Venne, who has written for shows like Acts of Vengeance and Dexter: Resurrection, after a competitive bidding process.
The upcoming film, described as an action thriller starring two leads, is shrouded in secrecy, but things are moving fast now that Paul Greengrass is directing. The studio aims to start filming by the end of this year or early next. The title, Test Drive, suggests the movie will feature exciting car chases and stunts, and 20th Century Studios is searching for the ideal pair of actors to headline this project, which will likely be marketed as being from the director of the Bourne films.
