Peacock is Now The Only Place To Stream One Of The Most Underrated Horrors of the 21st Century

October is packed with scary movies on streaming services, and there’s one new film on Peacock you won’t want to miss while it’s still available. When it comes to horror that’s good for kids, classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and Corpse Bride are always popular. Some people don’t think animation makes these films any less scary, and they’re right – these movies are beloved for a reason and are endlessly enjoyable. But this spooky season, no horror fan should skip out on another fantastic, lesser-known animated Halloween film.

Gil Kenan’s first movie as director, Monster House, became available to stream on Peacock on October 1st, but it will only be on the platform through Halloween. The story takes place during Halloween and follows three kids who have to work together to take down a scary house in their neighborhood that’s not just haunted-it’s actually alive! Monster House made $142 million around the world, with a production budget of $75 million. It’s “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a 75% approval rating from critics, and is a wonderful choice for families to enjoy during the Halloween season, easily earning its place among other Halloween favorites.

Why You Should Watch Monster House

Monster House is rated PG, making it seem like it’s just for kids, but it’s actually a scary movie that adults will like too. It’s a really fun ride from start to finish, and it does something clever with the typical haunted house story – the house is actually alive! This movie is a classic spooky adventure with a fast pace and unexpected twists. It has some truly creepy parts and scares, but it also has a surprisingly sweet and emotional side. The characters – the worried DJ, the silly Chowder, and the clever Jenny – are really entertaining, and their natural chemistry and playful, childlike behavior provide plenty of funny moments to balance out the scary parts.

What truly makes Monster House special is its animation. The film was a pioneer in blending motion-capture technology with traditional animation techniques, resulting in incredibly realistic characters and a distinctive visual style reminiscent of stop-motion films. The movie is visually impressive overall, and it wonderfully embodies the spirit of Halloween – from the eerie and intimidating atmosphere of the haunted house, complete with its menacing teeth and sprawling arms, to the beautiful autumn landscapes of the neighborhood. All of these elements come together to make Monster House an ideal Halloween movie for families, offering a blend of scares, laughs, and genuine emotion. Although other animated Halloween favorites like Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas often receive more attention this time of year, Monster House remains a perfect family-friendly Halloween movie that is equal parts scary, humorous, and heartfelt.
