Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, is making a splash in the crowded streaming market. It offers a wide range of content, including beloved classic sitcoms, popular Bravo reality shows, and new movies. But what many viewers might not realize is its strong collection of horror films – from retro favorites like Prom Night to newer hits like Black Phone 2. Now, Peacock has added almost an entire iconic horror series, giving subscribers a perfect chance to binge-watch them.
Looking for a festive way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Peacock has a lot of options! Almost all of the Leprechaun movies began streaming on March 1st. This funny horror series features Warwick Davis as a mischievous and dangerous leprechaun who uses magic and violence—along with a lot of rhyming—to defend his gold. The first film, starring Jennifer Aniston, came out in 1993, and the series continued with eight movies in total, up through 2018’s Leprechaun Returns. That last one isn’t currently on Peacock, though—you’ll need a Hulu + Live TV (ad-free) subscription to watch it.
The Leprechaun Franchise Is a Campy Take on St. Patrick’s Day
The Leprechaun movies aren’t considered among the greatest slasher franchises. Every film has received negative reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with scores ranging from a high of 45% for Leprechaun Returns (the only film with a positive audience score of 70%) to a low of 0% for Leprechaun Origins. Despite this, the films have become a beloved, over-the-top horror-comedy staple, known for their wild absurdity. To enjoy them, you need to appreciate their intentionally cheesy, low-budget appeal – and there’s a lot of it!
The Leprechaun movies are delightfully cheesy horror films – so bad they’re good! They’re perfect for relaxed viewing because they don’t take themselves seriously at all. Across eight films, the series embraces ridiculousness, sending the Leprechaun to increasingly wild locations like farms, city neighborhoods, Las Vegas, and even space. The movies have quirky rules, like the Leprechaun’s weakness to four-leaf clovers, and are packed with puns, awkward humor, and creatively over-the-top deaths that will make you laugh. Warwick Davis is also fantastic as the mischievous, pun-loving villain, delivering a charming yet menacing performance that makes him a truly memorable slasher icon.
What’s New on Peacock?
As a movie lover, I’m really excited about what Peacock is offering this March! They’ve added a ton of new films, and it’s a great time to check them out. If you’re into horror, especially slasher flicks, they’ve got both Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th – Part III available, which is perfect timing with their upcoming Crystal Lake prequel series. Beyond that, they’ve also added some real classics and recent hits like The Big Lebowski, John Wick: Chapter 4, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Wiz. Definitely something for everyone!
