Peak Polygonal Dogfighting Targeting PS5, PS4 in Air Combat 22 Port

The Arcade Archives line is absolutely on fire.

This month saw the arrival of a flawless port of the original Ridge Racer, and in honor of Ace Combat’s 30th anniversary, we’ll soon have a version of Air Combat 22 for both PS5 and PS4.

It’s due out this week, on 3rd July.

This game first appeared in 1995 on Namco’s advanced System Super 22 arcade platform. It’s a follow-up to the 1993 game Air Combat, which was later ported to the PS1 and became the foundation for the Ace Combat series.

Here’s how Japanese studio Hamster Corporation describes it:

This game showcases a significant advancement in 3D graphics and vibrant animations, utilizing the enhanced System Super 22 arcade platform, an upgrade from the System 22 architecture renowned for its iconic 3D games. Embark on action-packed missions involving intense air battles against numerous enemy aircraft, challenging white-knuckle scenarios that demand skilled maneuvers, and much more as you master various aerial combat situations. Prepare to be hailed as a sky hero!

Just like other Arcade Archives launches, you’ll find an array of enhancements and updates, such as rankings and additional features.

Similarly to Ridge Racer, the pricier PS5 edition comes equipped with additional improvements, including a rewind function and a time trial mode.

In simpler terms, it costs $16.99 to play this game on PS5 and $14.99 on PS4. If you buy it for PS4 first, there’s an additional $2.99 fee for upgrading to the PS5 version. We understand that these prices might seem high, but the versions on both consoles are of good quality at least.
