The Jury, which originally premiered back in 2002, is now available to stream on Netflix.
This show revolves around a central cast involved in a contentious re-trial of a crime, boasting an array of renowned actors from television and cinema, notably the late Helen McCrory, famously recognized for her work in the series Peaky Blinders.
In the first season, the narrative primarily revolves around the murder of a 15-year-old boy, with one of his schoolmates being falsely accused. This triggers significant public outcry and demonstrations in the media.
As we trail behind the 12 jurors, we delve into their private worlds, uncovering their individual reasons and predominantly, the immense burden they carry in reaching a verdict that the entire nation eagerly anticipates.
Season one’s cast features McCrory alongside some notable names such as Gerard Butler, Nina Sosanya, Mark Strong, and Nicholas Farrell, among others.
In contrast to the previous season, this one stands independently, as each episode of “The Jury” features a fresh set of characters and storylines, much like an anthology series does.
In my humble opinion, I found myself eagerly anticipating Season 2, which graced our screens way back in 2011. This gripping installment revolved around the character of Alan Lane, portrayed brilliantly by John Lynch, who finds himself back in court for a retrial, having been previously convicted of the chilling murders of three women he had encountered through an online dating platform.
Once more, the story revolves around a dozen jurors tasked with determining his destiny, each coming from distinct backgrounds. In addition to managing the contentious murder case, these jurors struggle with personal issues such as infidelity, faith, and immigration matters.
Season 2’s cast features notable actors such as Roger Allam, Jo Hartley, Meera Syal, Julie Walters, and Sarah Alexander, along with many more talented individuals.
Earlier, the show was only accessible on ITVX, but now that it’s also streaming on Netflix, it’s likely to attract a lot of new viewers who haven’t yet experienced this dramatic series.
The television series was originally created by Peter Morgan, marking a unique milestone as it became the very first production permitted to shoot within the historic Old Bailey courthouse in London.
Known for directing Netflix’s acclaimed series The Crown throughout its six seasons, The Jury is undeniably a standout dramatic production. It explores compelling human narratives within the context of the justice system.
