The classic Channel 4 game show from the ’90s is coming back to our screens with an updated version called Zapheap. Notably, original host Robert Llewellyn and inventor Colin Furze will be co-hosting this new take on the popular show.
In a contemporary twist, two teams will be challenged to construct electric-powered devices out of recycled materials over a 10-hour period. These creations will subsequently be showcased and tested before a live audience at the Everything Electric Expo towards the end of this year.
Here are the teams’ leaders and where you can watch them: Richard Morgan from Electric Classic Cars and Anne Kloppenberg from New Electric will head their respective teams. You can catch these teams in action on YouTube.
Llewellyn expressed his excitement about Colin Furze joining them on Zapheap, saying, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Colin Furze as our new co-host!
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my conviction that his profound engineering background, unquenchable passion, and captivating presentation skills make him the ideal candidate to breathe life into this motivational game show. Whether it’s for those discovering it anew or reminiscing about the original, he’s the one who will undoubtedly light up the screen!

It’s been fortunate for us to have Colin as our keynote speaker at our Everything Electric events in London. We’re excited that he will now be part of our team to bring the Zapheap vision to life at last.
In his remarks, Furze stated, “Scrapheap Challenge played a significant role in shaping my childhood; it was one of the factors that ignited my passion for construction. I fervently believe that Zapheap will trigger a fresh influx of creators to take up tools and delve into invention.
The original series aired from 1998 to 2010, with 11 seasons having aired on Channel 4.
Apart from the primary program, we also had airings for spin-offs like Full Metal Challenge and Scrappy Races rallies, as well as the American version of Junkyard Wars.
