PGA Golfer Jake Knapp Speaks Out on Girlfriend Makena White’s Death

Jake Knapp is mourning a tragic loss.

After learning of his girlfriend, Makena White’s, passing at 28 years old, the professional golfer shared memories of her kindness.

Knapp said in a statement to *People* magazine on September 26th that Makena was a truly kind and selfless person, and he will always be grateful for her generosity. He added that they had many wonderful memories together, and he’s still struggling to accept that she’s gone.

I was so saddened to hear about her passing. She was only 31, and everyone who knew her will deeply miss her. She came from a wonderful family, had amazing friends, and just had this incredible, vibrant energy that lit up every room she entered. It’s a huge loss for all of us.

Knapp, who started dating White in August 2023, also shared how hard this loss is for her and asked for privacy as she and her family mourn.

It’s difficult to express how deeply Mak’s loss is felt by those who knew her,” he said. “Her family and friends are especially hurting, and they deserve privacy and respect as they grieve.

Just hours earlier, a friend had told White about her passing, describing her as truly unique.

A friend shared on Instagram that Makena had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and was incredibly loving. Being loved by her was a true gift, filled with laughter, joy, and a bit of playful chaos as they tried to follow her adventurous travels.

The message ended with a heartfelt goodbye, saying, “We love you, Mak. We’ll always miss you and remember you fondly.”

A cause of death has not been shared publicly.

Last month, White marked her and Knapp’s two-year anniversary by posting sweet photos of them together while golfing, including a picture of them kissing.

She celebrated finishing the second season with an Instagram post on August 11th, expressing her gratitude for the journey and looking forward to many more to come.

White added, “I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.”
