Brendan Greene, the creator of PUBG, has released his new game, Prologue: Go Wayback!, into Early Access on Steam after a long development period.
Brendan Greene, better known as PlayerUnknown, created the popular battle royale game PUBG. Since then, he’s started his own game studio, PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions, and is currently working on a new game with his team.
Unlike his earlier games, Prologue: Go Wayback! is a completely different experience. Instead of the battle royale style, it focuses on surviving in a world that’s created randomly each time you play.

The game also features roguelike elements, meaning it’s quite challenging and players will need to carefully find their way to safety in the wild.
Because the game creates its world randomly, every time you play will be a fresh experience. You’ll need to explore, build items, and carefully manage your supplies to stay alive.
Players can select from two modes: the classic Go Wayback! mode and the more challenging Objective: Survive mode. In Objective: Survive, you’ll need to carefully manage limited resources as you play.
The game also includes a Free Roam mode with some basic survival challenges, though players will still need to carefully manage their supplies.
One of the coolest features is the map editor, which allows players to create and customize their own levels. Plus, they can even add their own images to really personalize things!

Prologue: Go Wayback! Releases on Early Access – What You Should Know
At just $19.99, Prologue: Go Wayback! is a great value, especially considering it’s an early access game from a smaller development team.
Right now, it’s on a 10% discount, bringing down the price to just $17.99.
You don’t need a super powerful computer to run this game. It will work with an Intel i5-8600 processor and a GTX 1070 graphics card. Plus, the game is a relatively small download at just 10GB.
However, if you look further down on the game’s Steam page, you’ll find a notice explaining that some content was created using AI.
We’re creating our own machine learning system to build the game’s landscapes. It learns from publicly available data, and we carefully check everything to ensure no copyrighted material is used. This system generates the basic terrain in Unreal Engine 5, which is then filled with things like trees, rivers, rocks, and hills. Our artists use it to create natural and realistic maps spanning 64 square kilometers. Every time you start a new game, a unique map is generated on your computer.
Embark Studios recently pointed out to Rock Paper Shotgun that ‘machine learning’ and ‘generative AI’ aren’t quite the same thing, and it’s important to understand the distinction.

As we continue developing the game, we’ll be adding features like dynamic weather, improved climbing equipment, and gear that wears down over time. Whether or not we add a multiplayer mode will depend on what the team decides.
Maybe if the game gains enough traction, that could turn into a possibility.
