In recent times, several exclusive games developed by Sony PlayStation have become available on other platforms, primarily benefiting PC users through Steam and Epic Games Store with titles like “The Last of Us” and “Until Dawn”. Even Microsoft and Nintendo have received some of these internally made games, such as “LEGO Horizon Adventures” on Switch and “Helldivers 2” on Xbox Series X|S. A recent job listing suggests that PlayStation may be planning more cross-platform moves, specifically hiring a senior director for multiplatform & account management, hinting at potentially grand plans for the future. In this position as Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management, you will report directly to the Vice President of Commercial Management. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the development and implementation of the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across various digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware. This includes Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile devices.
Your key objectives will include optimizing title profitability, ensuring cross-functional alignment, and leading a high-performing team dedicated to multiplatform expansion, mid-range commercial planning, and managing partnerships with platform partners.

Although PlayStation isn’t likely to adopt a multiplatform approach like Xbox right away, given the strong sales of their system and the impact of exclusive titles on PS5, there might be an increased chance of older PlayStation games being ported to other platforms such as Xbox or Nintendo Switch in the future. This could provide a significant sales boost for these long-standing games while also helping to recoup high development costs. Games like Spider-Man seem like ideal candidates for this kind of transition, and it would make strategic sense from Marvel’s point of view too.
It’s plausible that the new role at PlayStation might be related to the announcements made during Nintendo Direct back in March. During this event, Bandai Namco unveiled two games for Nintendo Switch and PS5, both based on PlayStation-owned IP: “Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots” and “Patapon 1+2 Replay”. It’s speculated that Sony might be considering licensing out more of its inactive franchises to companies like Bandai Namco for these games. Sony has a vast library of IPs, many of which have been absent for some time, such as the beloved “Legend of Legaia” or the “Ape Escape” series.
It’s apparent that Sony, the maker of PlayStation, seems less focused on keeping its games exclusive to just one platform compared to before. With rising development costs, it makes sense for them to distribute games across multiple platforms as a way to recoup expenses after the fact. This might be advantageous for those who are not keen or able to buy a PS5, but we’ll have to observe how this strategy unfolds in the future.
