PlayStation Plus members are excited about a recently added free PS5 game, calling it one of the best available on the service. However, only subscribers to the Extra and Premium tiers can access it – those on the basic Essential plan are excluded. Players who have tried the game since its release earlier this week say it’s a good reason to consider upgrading your subscription.
PlayStation Plus members on PS5 are especially excited about one of the new games added this month: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. The positive response from PlayStation Plus subscribers isn’t unexpected, as the game received similar praise from Xbox Game Pass subscribers when it was added in January. Plus, Space Marine 2 is a highly-rated third-person shooter – it currently has an 83 on Metacritic, was nominated for two awards at The Game Awards, exceeded sales expectations, and has excellent reviews from players on the PlayStation Store.
“The Best Game on the Service in a LONG Time”
A recent popular post on the PlayStation Plus Reddit forum praises a third-person shooter game from Saber St. Petersburg and Focus Entertainment, calling it the best addition to the Extra and Premium service in a long while.
The post describes the game as a modern take on the exciting, intense action games many people enjoyed on the Xbox 360.
While one PlayStation Plus user’s opinion isn’t significant on its own, the post gained a lot of attention, and many comments expressed similar feelings.
Players are praising how great Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 looks on the PS5 Pro. This is largely due to Sony’s new PSSR 2.0 update, which enhances the graphics on the console. A post on the PS5 Pro Reddit page shows that PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers are especially impressed with the game’s visuals.

One of 2024’s Best Games
It’s currently unclear how long Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be available on PS Plus Extra and Premium, but with a new game coming soon, now is a great time to explore the series. However, PS5 players should know that the original 2011 game doesn’t live up to the quality of the sequel. While the first game received a remaster last year, it hasn’t been released on PS5 and there are no plans for it to be. This means PS5 players would need to play the original on PS3 unless they have a PC or Xbox Series X. Although this isn’t ideal, the remaster was so poorly received that refunds were issued, so PS5 players aren’t really missing out on a great experience.
Players on PS5 with a PS Plus Extra or Premium membership can expect to spend around 10 to 15 hours playing through Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. If you’re someone who likes to fully complete games and find everything, it will likely take between 60 and 70 hours.
