PlayStation believes that the choice of both PS5 and PS4 games they are adding to the different levels of their PlayStation Plus subscription service is getting better compared to previous years.
During an extensive chat with Game File, Nick Maguire, the vice president of global services, shared insights about the expansion the company is experiencing across all levels of its PS Plus service. Specifically, he noted a significant increase in both the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium tiers.
It appears that the decision made a few years back to introduce three membership tiers exceeded Sony’s predictions, enabling them to boost their investment in this service. The PS Plus Premium tier has reportedly expanded by 12% within the past year, and Maguire suggests that the caliber of games (which he hopes people will find appealing) is likely improving annually as a direct result.
Hey there fellow gamers! I just got some super exciting news as part of the kickoff for PS Plus’s 15th anniversary celebrations. Sony has announced that Diablo 4, The King of Fighters XV, and Jusant will be joining us on PS Plus Essential starting in July! Can’t wait to dive into these epic games alongside you all!
Although the monthly games for the PS Plus Essential have generally been of good quality, the offerings from the more expensive tiers such as PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium can fluctuate significantly. While it seemed like the retro-centric Premium option was gaining momentum, the new titles added to the service in recent months have fallen short of expectations.
Maguire stated that Sony has been releasing at least one update per month, as evident from the past two months. He mentioned that there is an excellent emulation team collaborating with both external partners and internal groups, which occasionally necessitates a longer development period.
For the PS Plus Extra service, the company aims to enrich it by including PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games that are approximately 12 to 18 months old. They also add “four or five standalone titles” released simultaneously (day-and-date) throughout the year to expand the collection. The latest Remedy game, FBC: Firebreak, was one of these simultaneous releases and became available on PS Plus Extra recently.
Maguire stated, “Since our approach aims to cater to everyone, it logically means that not everyone will prefer a specific month. Moving forward, we plan on paying close attention to gamer preferences and striving to offer even greater value to them.
