Support for the PS5 Pro from PlayStation has been disappointing. Not only are many game developers skipping improvements for the new console, but PlayStation itself has done so with its own games. One recent release, God of War: Sons of Sparta, launched without any PS5 Pro enhancements and still doesn’t have them. While Marathon is listed as enhanced, the PlayStation Store doesn’t clearly show that. This might be forgivable for a smaller, experimental game, but PlayStation’s next release is a full-priced, $70 title, making the lack of support even more concerning.
PlayStation Studios will release MLB The Show 26 on March 17th, making it their third game of 2026. While a more powerful PS5 Pro could improve the game, it won’t be getting those enhancements. This isn’t a huge surprise, as MLB The Show 25 also didn’t take advantage of the PS5 Pro. As a result, the Xbox Series X currently offers the best experience for the series, given its superior power compared to the standard PS5.
PlayStation Needs to Do Better
PlayStation should ensure all its new PS5 games are optimized for the PS5 Pro from the moment they’re released. This is the least players expect. While meaningful improvements are ideal, even basic optimizations would be a step in the right direction. Sony owes it to its loyal fanbase to deliver this, and it’s crucial to set an example for other developers. If PlayStation doesn’t fully support the new console, it’s hard to convince third-party studios to do so. Unfortunately, most third-party games – even major titles – don’t include these enhancements, and rarely receive them later on.
It’s frustrating that PlayStation doesn’t seem to fully support its high-end console, especially when Xbox has been a strong supporter. On a brighter note, this week’s major game release, Crimson Desert, will launch with significant enhancements for the PS5 Pro.
