A new Pokémon game has taken the top spot in Famitsu’s “Most-Wanted” game rankings, ending Pragmata‘s long run at number one. Pragmata is expected to release soon, but the new Pokémon game, which doesn’t have a release date yet, could stay at the top for a long time. It’s important to remember that these rankings are based on a poll and are primarily focused on Japanese gamers. This provides a good look at what Japanese players are excited about, but it doesn’t necessarily reflect global preferences. If the poll represented the entire world, GTA 6 would undoubtedly be number one and wouldn’t be easily dethroned.
Currently, Pokémon Winds & Waves—the newest main installment in the Pokémon series from Nintendo and Game Freak—has slightly surpassed Pragmata in anticipation. Here’s the current top ten most anticipated games, listed in order: Persona 4 Revival, Ganbare Goemon Daishuugo, Tomodachi Life, Splatoon Raiders, Rhythm Heaven Groove, GTA 6, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
Nintendo Switch 2’s System Seller
Okay, so the Switch 2 is out, and honestly, it hasn’t had that one game that everyone absolutely had to have yet. Mario Kart World is doing well, for sure, and it’s selling some consoles, but it’s not blowing up like past Mario Kart games did when they launched on their consoles. It’s just not hitting that same level of ‘must-have’ appeal.
According to Metacritic, the top game of 2025 is Pokémon Pokopia, which is selling well. It’s still too early to say if it will significantly boost console sales, but traditionally, Pokémon games always help sell hardware, and Pokémon Wind & Waves appears to be continuing that trend.
Currently, Pokémon Wind & Waves is planned for release in 2027 on the Nintendo Switch 2, and traditionally, new Pokémon games stick to their scheduled release dates. With Pragmata launching soon, it’s unlikely anything will push Pokémon Wind & Waves from its leading position anytime soon. Unless a major new game is announced, it’s safe to assume this Pokémon title will remain highly anticipated.
