PocketGame is back on social media after briefly disappearing. This return follows the controversy surrounding their game, Pickmon, which many noticed was very similar to Pokémon and Palworld. However, the game is now being referred to as Pickmos.
Yes, that is indeed a single letter change: Pickmon has become Pickmos.
The team recently updated the game’s name to better reflect its overall story and style, as shown on their social media. They explain that the new name, using the term “mos”, is meant to represent a vast and expansive universe. They believe this name is more impactful and fitting for the immersive adventure they’re creating.
After the explanation, the studio is still facing criticism from Pokémon fans who have noticed that some of its monster designs are very similar to existing Pokémon, like the one resembling Charizard in the image. It’s currently unclear if Nintendo or Game Freak have reached out to PocketGame about these designs.
@merondepancito expressed strong criticism, stating that a simple name change doesn’t address the core issues and questioned whether the developers thought people wouldn’t notice the similarities to games like Pokémon, Palworld, and Zelda. They also pointed out that one of the game’s designs appears to have been taken from another artist.
PocketGame said they’re reaching out to the game’s art director about the claims that were made.
