To mark 30 years of Pokémon, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are hosting a special online event called Pokémon Presents on February 27th. You can watch it live on the official Pokémon channels on YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, and TikTok starting at 2 PM UTC. While they haven’t announced exactly what will be featured, the event is a celebration of everything Pokémon, so expect to see news about games, movies, and more!
This Pokémon Presents event also marks the release of Pokémon LeafGreen and FireRed on Nintendo Switch. These are updated versions of the classic Game Boy Advance games, and each will cost $19.99. Nintendo and Game Freak haven’t shared many details about the improvements, but the Nintendo eShop says you’ll be able to trade and battle Pokémon wirelessly through the Pokémon Wireless Club. Otherwise, the games will look and play much like the original versions.
During the upcoming Pokémon Presents showcase, we’re likely to hear more about Pokémon Pokopia, a new game coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5th. Announced last September, Pokémon Pokopia has a unique concept: you play as a Ditto that’s transformed to resemble a child. The game also blends Pokémon with survival and crafting elements, requiring players to gather resources, create tools, and even build a house as they explore the world.
A fun new feature lets you meet and befriend Pokémon who will then come live with you and help around your home. For instance, Squirtle can water your plants, and Charmander can use its fire to clear away weeds.
Takuto Edagawa, director of Pokémon Pokopia, recently shared that completing the main game will likely take players between 20 and 40 hours. However, he also emphasized there’s still a lot to enjoy after the credits roll, depending on how players choose to play. “There’s more to experience after the end roll,” he explained.
Whether players keep playing really depends on what they enjoy about the game, but we think they’ll be motivated to continue.
The most recent main installment in the Pokémon series is Pokémon Legends: Z-A, released for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in October 2025. The game proved popular, and was followed by downloadable content called Mega Dimension. Before its December release, Game Freak shared details about new Pokémon players would find, including Mega Lucario Z and Mega Zeraora.
