Poll: Uncharted 4 Turns 10 Years Old, But Is It the Series’ Peak?

Today marks the 10-year anniversary of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. It’s been a full decade since the last main installment in the Uncharted series (excluding the spin-off, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy).

Uncharted 4 was highly praised when it came out in 2016, and it’s still considered a top game for the PlayStation 4. Many fans believe it’s the best installment in the whole Uncharted series, which is quite a statement considering how good the other games are.

After the success of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog revisited the characters of Nathan Drake and his crew. However, this wasn’t just about continuing a popular series – it was something more.

The development of Uncharted 4 was quite difficult. It was originally announced when the PlayStation 4 first came out in 2013, but things changed dramatically a few months later when the director, Amy Hennig, left the project.

A former Naughty Dog employee recently shared stories about a troubled project he worked on at the studio. Although he didn’t specifically name the game, the details he provided strongly suggest he was talking about Uncharted 4.

The situation was critical, and Sony was ready to cancel the project altogether. However, things turned around when Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, the creators of The Last of Us, were brought on board to fix the issues.

As expected, Uncharted 4 became one of the best-reviewed games of its console generation. However, it’s also sparked some debate among fans over the years.

Druckmann and Straley definitely made the game feel more mature. While still recognizably Uncharted, it felt like a more sophisticated version, with greater risks and more realistic characters.

This Uncharted game is significantly longer than previous installments, largely due to its numerous and lengthy cutscenes. It feels much more drawn-out and substantial compared to earlier titles.

Uncharted 4 is a bit of a departure for the series, but it’s incredibly polished and enjoyable. It still holds up visually and plays remarkably well, so it’s easy to see why people both love and dislike the changes.

After all this time, the real question is: does this game represent the Uncharted series at its peak? It’s a fair question, especially when many still consider Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to be one of the greatest games ever made.

Ten years after its release, how do you feel about Uncharted 4? Do you think it’s the best PlayStation game ever, or has it perhaps been a little overhyped? Let us know by voting in our polls, and share your thoughts in the comments below!
