DC Studios is working on a new Batman movie called The Brave and the Bold. Unlike recent Batman films, this one will heavily feature the Bat Family – characters like Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl – who haven’t been prominently featured in live-action movies for a long time. While everyone’s talking about who should play Batman, fans are also speculating about the actors who could play these other characters. One popular choice for Nightwing is Harry Collett, known for his role in House of the Dragon, and he’s now publicly expressed his interest in the part.
While promoting Season 3 of House of the Dragon (launching June 21st), Collett spoke with ComicBook about potential comic book roles. He revealed fans have been suggesting he play Nightwing from DC Comics, a character he wasn’t initially familiar with. After the interviewer pointed out his resemblance to Dick Grayson, Collett jokingly made a direct appeal to James Gunn, asking him to consider him for the part.
When Will We See Nightwing In the DC Universe?

While many fans would love to see Collett play Nightwing, it’s still unclear when this character will appear in DC films and shows. James Gunn recently shared that the script for The Brave and the Bold isn’t complete yet, and he’s made it clear no DC project will begin production until a final, approved screenplay is ready. This means casting decisions – like who might play Nightwing – won’t happen until the script is finished, which is a sensible approach. It allows Gunn to find actors perfectly suited for their roles as written.
It’s unclear when The Brave and the Bold will be released in theaters, but it probably won’t be for at least two years. James Gunn, the DCU head, wants to avoid releasing it in the same year as The Batman Part II, scheduled for October 2027. However, he also doesn’t want to wait until after The Batman 3 to begin work on The Brave and the Bold. So, the DCU’s Batman movie needs to start developing soon. Ultimately, the timeline depends on how the script comes together, as developing a Batman movie can take a significant amount of time, as seen with The Batman Part II.
Though we might not see Dick Grayson as a crime fighter immediately, audiences should get their first glimpses of him later this year in the DC Universe. On the set of Clayface, flyers advertising the Flying Graysons have been spotted, confirming that Dick Grayson is part of the DCU. It’s unclear if he’s already operating as Nightwing, but he is officially included in the universe’s story. However, don’t expect a major appearance from him in Clayface; the movie centers on Matt Hagen’s story. James Gunn will likely introduce Nightwing more fully in a future project that focuses more on Batman.
James Gunn has suggested that plans for The Brave and the Bold movie have evolved. When questioned last year about a storyline involving Bruce Wayne and his son, Damien, Gunn simply said fans would have to wait and see. This leaves us wondering if the Bat Family will still play a role in the DCU’s Batman film, or if the project has taken a new path. Including the Bat Family could help set this franchise apart from Matt Reeves’ darker Batman stories, but Gunn won’t include anything he doesn’t believe in. Ultimately, it remains to be seen if Nightwing will appear in the movie, and who might play him.
