Usually, players get plenty of notice before a game is removed from a store. This is often because of licensing issues or when a game’s servers are shutting down. However, sometimes games disappear from Steam with very little warning. That recently happened with the popular early access game Starsand Island, which launched on February 11th. It was suddenly removed from the Steam store on April 9th, preventing new players from buying it. Now, the game’s developer has explained what caused the removal.
After the game Starsand Island was removed from Steam, the developers explained what happened on their official X account. It seems the game was taken down because of a copyright claim involving the mini-games within the in-game arcade. Fortunately, Seed Sparkle Lab has already taken those assets out of the game, and Steam is now checking the updated version. If everything looks good, Starsand Island should be available for purchase again soon. However, it’s currently unavailable on the Steam store.
Starsand Island Pulled from Steam Due to Mini-Game Copyright Concerns

Starsand Island is a cozy life simulation game currently in Early Access, letting players start over in a peaceful island community. You can enjoy familiar activities like farming, crafting, and raising animals. Since its release, the game has become a favorite among fans of the genre thanks to its charming art style and relaxing gameplay. Unfortunately, it’s currently unavailable for purchase on Steam.
Starsand Island features an arcade where players can enjoy several mini-games. It seems a copyright issue arose from content within the arcade. Seed Sparkle Lab’s official statement doesn’t specify which game caused the problem, but explains that some visual elements from an older, well-known game were used without permission. They’ve apologized for the error and are outlining the next steps for the game.
Important Update: Changes to Game Content
Dear Players,
We’ve discovered that some visual elements from another game were included in our mini-game section without permission. This happened because of an error during planning, and we sincerely apologize for the mistake. We are…

Seed Sparkle Lab has confirmed they’ve removed some inappropriate content from the latest version of the game, which is currently being checked. This probably means one of the mini-games in the arcade won’t be available when Starsand Island returns. The main game on those machines is Tetris, so the problem is likely due to using the Tetris blocks without the proper license. It’s still unclear if the entire arcade will be removed, or if it will just have different games instead.
Until the latest version of Starsand Island is approved on Steam, you won’t be able to buy or download it. If you already own the game, you can still play it as usual. When it’s available again, Seed Sparkle Lab promises that all your progress will be saved – just update the game to pick up where you left off. The only change will be that a few mini-games will be removed.
Players will also receive a free DLC pack as an apology for the recent issues. The “Shining Star” outfit will be available next week as a way for Seed Sparkle Lab to express its sincere regrets. The team is working on better internal checks and reviews to prevent similar problems in the future. They hope this means that when Starsand Island returns to Steam, it will be a permanent return.
