Episode 6 of The Boys Season 5 briefly changes the show’s ranking of strongest characters, but things quickly return to normal. Spoiler alert! This week’s episode, “Though the Heavens Fall,” introduces the character Bombsight (Mason Dye), who is a surprisingly strong opponent for Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) thanks to a special compound in his blood. However, Soldier Boy takes away Bombsight’s powers in exchange for that compound. While Bombsight could have potentially become the strongest supe, surpassing even Butcher, that doesn’t happen, and the power rankings remain largely unchanged.
Okay, so I just finished Season 5, Episode 6 of The Boys, and honestly, things mostly reset. The biggest change? Homelander is even more powerful. Soldier Boy actually gave him some of his V1 compound, and that pretty much locks him in as the strongest supe, period. There are still a few heroes who might have a chance, but they’d have to rely on their specific abilities, not just try to outmuscle him – because that’s not happening.
5) Billy Butcher

Bombsight’s powers initially threatened Butcher’s position as one of the strongest characters in The Boys, but with Bombsight now powerless, Butcher remains fifth in the ranking. He’s still tough enough to fight powerful supes like Soldier Boy, and his tentacles let him attack from a distance, effectively taking down even strong opponents. However, Butcher lacks the special abilities needed to defeat the Odessa subjects, those with V1, or a natural supe like Ryan. Therefore, he’ll stay ranked below Marie, Ryan, Soldier Boy, and Homelander. Considering Homelander recently became even more powerful, Butcher might not even be able to withstand a fight against him. In fact, Butcher’s final words in Season 5, Episode 6 hint that he knows retreating is the best option.
4) Marie Moreau

While the characters from Gen V haven’t appeared in The Boys Season 5 yet, we still don’t know exactly how Marie Moreau stacks up against the show’s most powerful heroes. However, her ability to control blood makes her a serious threat, potentially as dangerous as Butcher. As one of only two people to survive Project Odessa, she’s likely exceptionally powerful. She can attack from a distance, manipulate others’ bodies, and even heal or bring people back to life—abilities that are unique among supes. Although she’s probably not as physically strong as Ryan, Soldier Boy, or Homelander (and hasn’t fought them yet), her powers over blood could be the key to removing the V1 substance from other supes, giving her an edge against even Homelander and Soldier Boy.
3) Ryan Butcher

Ryan will be back in Season 5 of The Boys, but like Marie, he hasn’t been seen lately. After a fight with Homelander where he lost, it’s clear Ryan still has some growing to do before he reaches his full potential. He has all the same abilities as Homelander – flight, heat vision, and super strength – but hasn’t fully developed them yet, which puts him below Homelander in terms of power. He’s likely also not as skilled in combat as Soldier Boy, although he did manage to seriously injure Stormfront. Right now, Ryan is unpredictable, and we haven’t seen him unleash his full power. However, if Homelander represents the peak of what a superpowered person can be, Ryan – as his natural son – could be even stronger. It’s also unknown how Ryan will react to the supe virus, since he wasn’t created with Compound V. We need to see more of his abilities before we can accurately assess where he stands.
2) Soldier Boy

Before Homelander showed up, everyone believed Soldier Boy was the most powerful supe around, and it’s easy to see why. He’s incredibly strong and durable, way more so than most others. Plus, the special Compound V1 in his blood protects him from the supe virus – something very few can claim in this world. And then there are his radiation blasts! They take a little longer to fire off at a distance, so they aren’t quite as flashy as heat vision, but they actually remove a supe’s powers. We saw it happen to Bombsight, and it worked even though he also had V1. So, technically, Soldier Boy could still beat Homelander, even if Homelander is physically stronger. The problem is, Soldier Boy needs to get close, and with Homelander’s heat vision getting even more powerful, I think that’s a really tough ask. It’d probably end quickly.
1) Homelander

Homelander is, without a doubt, the most powerful superhero in Season 5 of The Boys, and that was true even before the latest episode. He’s incredibly difficult to harm, nearly impossible to kill, and easily overpowers any opponent. He doesn’t even need to get close to a fight – his heat vision can instantly eliminate threats. Beyond his strength and speed, he can fly and wields significant political influence. All of this established him as the strongest supe, and that was before he received V1. Now, V1 protects him from the one thing that previously had a chance of stopping him: Butcher’s supe virus. While Marie’s blood, Soldier Boy’s radiation, or even his son, Ryan, might still be able to defeat him, it’s far less likely. V1 not only provides immunity to the virus but also grants him immortality and boosts his already formidable powers. His heat vision is now significantly more dangerous, which is a terrifying prospect for everyone.
