The hit Prime Video series is coming back for another season! E. Lockhart, the author of the book the show is based on, recently hinted at which actors will be returning.
Joseph Zada will return as Johnny Sinclair Dennis, and Emil Alyn Lind will reprise her role as Cadence Sinclair Eastman. The show will also feature the returning cast of actresses who play the Sinclair sisters and aunts, connecting the cousins. According to Lockhart, Emily Alyn Lind and all the ‘wonderful mom actresses’ are back, along with Joseph Zada. However, Esther McGregor, who played Mirren Sinclair Sheffield in the first season, wasn’t mentioned.
The popular author also gave a hint about the new book’s storyline. She said it will feature both familiar characters and continue the dramatic events from Family of Liars. Family of Liars is a backstory to her well-known novel We Were Liars, and it revisits Beechwood Island, promising another summer filled with hidden truths.
The story of Family of Liars centers on the Sinclair sisters – Carrie, Penny, and Bess – and a pivotal event from their youth that dramatically altered their lives. The new adaptation will connect this past event to the present, showing how the sisters and their family grapple with secrets, loss, and the complexities of wealth and status across generations.
Lockhart explained that the upcoming second season of the We Were Liars TV show will incorporate elements from her book Family of Liars. She added that showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adley Mackenzie are also planning exciting new developments and surprises for the story. They have a lot of creative ideas in the works.
We Were Liars May Incorporate Another Lockhart Novel
Lockhart explained that fans of Family of Liars will get the answers they’re looking for, but still have plenty of surprises along the way. She added that she thinks it will be a lot of fun to watch. She also mentioned her novel, We Fell Apart, could potentially be incorporated into the show, and that the showrunners already have early copies to consider.
The story follows a group of close friends, known as the Liars, and their summer adventures on a private island owned by their grandfather in New England. The Sinclair family, who own the island, appear perfect – wealthy, attractive, and loving – but a shocking event reveals secrets that everyone is keeping, not just the Liars.
