New data shows that around 5% of PS5 owners in the United States also own a PS Portal handheld device.
According to Mat Piscatella at Circana, more than 5% of PlayStation 5 owners in the US now also own a PlayStation Portal handheld. This data comes from the September 2025 sales report.
Despite initial doubts, the PS Portal has proven successful for Sony, and is now a key factor in their decision to develop a dedicated handheld device for the PS6. Sony appears to be moving in this direction already, as evidenced by the new power-saving mode for the PS5.
As a PlayStation fan, I’m really excited about the PS Portal! It lets me stream my PS5 and PS4 games over the internet, which is awesome for on-the-go gaming. But what I’m really hoping for is the rumored PS6 handheld – apparently, it might actually play games directly on the device, just like the Steam Deck or the new ROG Ally. Sadly, that’s probably a few years off still. For now though, the PS Portal feels like a win for Sony, especially here in the US.
