The PS Portal is designed specifically for remote play, making it the most-used device for the feature. This also highlights how popular the accessory has become – around 5% of all PlayStation 5 owners in the US now have one.
Sony has added a new feature to its popular handheld device: PlayStation Plus Premium members can now stream games directly to it using the cloud.
This removes the need for a PS5 at all, meaning you can play over 2,800 games on the device.
In an interview with Tech Radar, Takuro Fushimi, a Senior Manager of Product Development, shared some details about the device.
We’ve found that people who use PS Portal are more actively involved with PlayStation than those who don’t. PS Portal is now the preferred way to use PS5 Remote Play, with more users choosing it over mobile devices, the PS5 console itself, and the PS4.
It’s not shocking that these results are what we’re seeing, considering the PS Portal was designed for Remote Play, and most buyers likely purchased it for that specific reason. However, it does show just how popular the device has become.
What’s really fascinating is to look back at our polls prior to the accessory’s release.
In a 2023 survey of nearly 6,000 people, we found that 60% weren’t planning to buy the device. Of those, 33% specifically stated they had no interest whatsoever.
However, a recent poll showed a shift in those numbers. Now, around 51% of our users report owning the handheld device, and 32% say they use it at least once a week.
