A classic PlayStation 1 game from 1997 is getting a surprise remaster next year. Sony has been re-releasing popular PS1 titles on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 throughout 2025, including games from series like Twisted Metal, Resident Evil, and MediEvil, with Tekken coming soon. And it seems this trend will continue into 2026, with another PS1 remaster already planned.
I was super excited to hear that Revolution Software is remastering *Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror*! It’s one of my all-time favorite point-and-click adventure games. I originally played it on PC, and it was amazing. They also brought it to the PlayStation 1 back in ’97 (or ’99 if you’re in the US), and that was the only time it ever appeared on a console, which is kinda cool!
After almost 30 years, the classic PlayStation game *Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror* is getting a remake, called *Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror – Reforged*. This updated version will feature improved graphics in 4K resolution and enhanced audio, along with other upgrades. It’s scheduled to release on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC in early 2026, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet.
Don’t Sleep on This PS1 Classic
Point-and-click adventure games aren’t as popular as they used to be, but the *Broken Sword* series is still considered one of the best. It’s a pioneering franchise in the adventure game world, often mentioned with classics like *Monkey Island* and *Grim Fandango*, and hasn’t had a new installment in over ten years. If you’re new to the genre, *Broken Sword 2* is an excellent game to begin with.
There’s good reason to expect a high-quality remaster of *Broken Sword 2*. The first game in the series, *Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars*, recently received a successful update called *Reforged*. It currently has an impressive 4.91/5 user score on the PlayStation Store. If the same level of care is put into this *Broken Sword 2* remaster, it should also be very well-received.
