PS3 and PS4 Exclusive RPG Gets New Remaster 10 Years Later

A role-playing game originally released in 2016 for PlayStation 3 and 4 is getting a remastered version today. This new version isn’t just for PlayStation 5—it’s also available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox Series X. For years, the game was exclusive to PlayStation, with a PC release following in 2017. This is the first time it’s been playable on other consoles.

If you haven’t heard, Bandai Namco just released a remastered version of Tales of Berseria, called Tales of Berseria Remastered, on various platforms. It’s priced at $40, but initial reactions are mixed – critics seem to enjoy it, while player reviews are less positive so far.

Mixed Reviews for New Bandai Namco Remaster

While it’s still early, Tales of Berseria Remastered has received a good score of 79 on Metacritic. User reviews are a bit more mixed. PlayStation players, especially those familiar with the original game, seem to really enjoy it, giving it an impressive 4.83 out of 5 stars based on almost 100 reviews – its highest rating so far. The game is too new to have user scores on Xbox, and Nintendo eShop doesn’t offer user reviews. On Steam, the approval rating is only 61%, significantly lower than on PlayStation. Players on Steam have mentioned technical problems and feel the remaster doesn’t offer enough substantial improvements over the original game.

PS5 owners can skip the remastered version and save $20, since the original PS4 game is available for $20. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X players don’t have this option.

One of the Last Great PS3 Games

The original game came out a few years after the PlayStation 4 was released, making it one of the final significant games for the PS3. Both the original and the remastered versions received a score of around 80 on Metacritic.

This game is the 16th installment in the Tales of RPG series, and it actually takes place before the events of Tales of Zestiria. You don’t need to have played any previous Tales of games to understand it, though knowing Tales of Zestiria will add some context. It was originally released in 2015 and hasn’t been re-released since.
