PS5 Exclusive Game From 2021 Suddenly Shut Down and Removed From PS Store

A PlayStation 5 game, originally released in 2021 and published by PlayStation, has been unexpectedly removed from sale and shut down. While games are sometimes taken off stores, it’s unusual when the console maker itself is the publisher. This has happened again with a PS5 online game that didn’t perform as well as hoped.

The car-combat game Destruction AllStars is no longer available on PS5. Launched in February 2021 by Lucid Games, it was one of the first exclusive games for the new console, which arrived in late 2020. However, the game received mixed reviews and didn’t attract a large player base, even after being offered for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Even though Destruction AllStars wasn’t a success, it had remained available for a few years. However, PlayStation and Lucid Games have now unexpectedly removed the game from the PlayStation Store, meaning new players can no longer purchase it digitally. They’ve also shut down the game servers, completely ending its online multiplayer. Players will have until November 26th to spend any Destruction Points they’ve earned in the game.

It’s not really surprising that PlayStation and Lucid Games have decided to remove Destruction AllStars. The game hasn’t been actively updated or played for a long time, so taking it off the PlayStation Store and shutting down the servers feels like a final step. What is a little unusual is that PlayStation didn’t give players any advance notice, as they usually do when retiring games like this.

PlayStation plans to keep expanding into the live-service game space on PS5 with several new titles. One of the biggest projects is Horizon Hunters Gathering, which PlayStation announced earlier this year. Another game, Fairgame$, developed by Haven Studios, is still in development and may be shown off again at PlayStation’s next State of Play event.
