We’ll be honest, after watching the Xbox Partner Preview, we immediately wondered if Rebellion’s new first-person shooter, Alien Deathstorm, had anything to do with Ridley Scott’s classic film.
Actually, that’s incorrect, but it was understandable why people might think so. The UK studio previously developed the Alien vs Predator game for the Atari Jaguar in 1994, and later revisited the franchise with a 2010 release on the PS3.
We believe some of the quality from that established background is being used in this brand-new first-person shooter, set to release in 2027.
It’s rare to see game announcements like this these days. This isn’t a game that requires constant online play or focuses on characters with unique abilities. It’s a straightforward, intensely scary action horror game taking place on a colony located on another planet.
Here’s how the dev describes it:
In Alien Deathstorm, you take on the role of a Combat Engineer, a skilled emergency responder sent to a distant colony that’s gone completely dark. You arrive before any major rescue teams, and your mission is to figure out what happened and save as many colonists as you can.
The moment you arrive, you see the colony is being completely destroyed by the Deathstorm. Everything is falling apart around you, and dangerous alien creatures are lurking in the chaos. You expected trouble, but this is far worse than you imagined, and the situation is rapidly deteriorating. What began as a rescue operation has quickly turned into a desperate struggle to survive.
You can check out the reveal trailer above, which is generic in a refreshing kinda way.
Are you aware of this? Just to clarify, we’re not talking about the movie series – please keep comments focused on the actual topic.
