After rumors surfaced online, Sony has officially announced that it’s raising the prices of both the PlayStation 5 and the PS Portal handheld.
Beginning April 2nd, 2026, the prices for the PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and PS Portal will increase substantially. Sony cites ongoing global economic challenges as the reason for this change.
Here are the current prices, and what they’re changing to (in bold):
- PS5: £479.99/€549.99/$549.99 > £569.99/€649.99/$649.99
- PS5 Digital Edition: £429.99/€499.99/$499.99 > £519.99/€599.99/$599.99
- PS5 Pro: £699.99/€799.99/$699.99 > £789.99/€899.99/$899.99
- PS Portal: £199.99/€219.99/$199.99 > £219.99/€249.99/$249.99
As a PlayStation fan, I saw the news about the price change, and honestly, it’s a bit tough. But reading the official blog, it sounds like they really thought this through. They explained it’s something they had to do to keep bringing us those awesome, top-notch games we all love, and to keep doing that for players around the world. It’s not ideal, but hopefully it means even better games in the future!
If you’re thinking about getting a PlayStation 5, now’s the time – prices are going up in just a few days!
