You can now play PS5 disaster MindsEye for free – well, sort of.
Just released in time for Christmas, the ‘Free Starter Pack‘ is essentially a longer demo. It includes a complete campaign mission, plus a variety of extra ‘ARCADIA’ missions and challenges.
The developers of Dev Build a Rocket Boy mention on the PlayStation Store that the demo will be consistently updated with fresh content, so players won’t feel like they’re missing out on the full MindsEye experience.
Here’s the official blurb:
Enjoy constantly updated gameplay in MindsEye with free new content! Experience a thrilling mission in the campaign and get a sneak peek at the fresh content we add regularly through ARCADIA.
MindsEye began as a tool for building open-world environments called Everything, and this demo seems designed to hint at future developments in that area.
The studio launched ARCADIA this month, a feature that fills the game world with creations made by players.
Many games, like Fortnite and Genshin Impact, have played with this idea. However, those games are generally more established and well-developed.
Okay, so ResetEra put together a list of everything you get if you grab the Free Starter Pack right now, and here it is:
- Robin Hood – Campaign Mission
- Garden Party – Drone Race
- Chase The Sun – Drone Race
- Honor Among Thieves
- Downtown – Goin’ Haywire
- Crosstown Traffic – Checkpoint Race
- Rude Interruption
- Turbulence – Race
- Free Bird – Sky Race
- Winging It – Checkpoint Race
- Craz-Eye Taxi – Checkpoint Race
- Friendly Fire
- Cruise Control – Sky Race
- Fractured Echo – Survival Horde
- Road To Hell – Race
The full game is on sale for Black Friday right now, but we suggest considering your purchase carefully before you buy.
Here’s what we said in our MindsEye PS5 review:
MindsEye is a deeply flawed and uninteresting game that shouldn’t have been released in its current state. While the story and cutscenes offer occasional sparks of potential, they’re overshadowed by a huge, empty map that clashes with the very straightforward campaign. The gameplay is also incredibly repetitive and feels outdated.
