PS5 Pro owners are finally receiving a significant upgrade to their console. Sony previously announced improvements to PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) – a key technology for the PS5 Pro – would arrive sometime after 2025. Updates have been quiet until recently, with reports suggesting a release in early 2026. Now confirmed, the PS5 Pro is better than ever, starting with the launch of a new game.
Mark Cerny, a designer for the PS5 Pro, announced on the PlayStation Blog that a new system update will be rolling out worldwide in the coming weeks. This update focuses on PSSR technology, significantly improving the console’s upscaling capabilities compared to its launch in late 2024. This enhanced PSSR feature will be implemented on a per-game basis, and the first game to support it will be Resident Evil Requiem.
PS5 Pro Will Improve Even More Games Soon

Mark Cerny announced that several games will be updated to take advantage of the improved PSSR technology. We’ll start hearing about which games in March, though the specific titles haven’t been revealed yet. A new PS5 Pro system update arriving next month will include an option called “Enhance PSSR Image Quality.” Turning this on will automatically enable compatible games to use the better version of PSSR.
PlayStation’s own games are expected to be among the first to receive enhancements for the PS5 Pro. While not officially announced, titles like Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Gran Turismo 7, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are the most probable candidates for these improvements. We’ll share the complete list of upgraded PS5 Pro games on ComicBook as soon as it’s available.
