We at Push Square are huge fans of the Lumines series, and the upcoming game, Lumines Arise, continues to impress us with each new look.
A recently released video provides the most comprehensive look yet at this puzzle game, showcasing its different modes and features. It also previews some new levels and character skins. If you don’t mind spoilers, it’s definitely worth checking out!
The core of the game is Journey mode, a single-player experience similar to Tetris Effect. You’ll progress through more than 35 levels, each featuring distinct music and beautiful graphics that create a kind of abstract narrative.
Besides that, there’s the classic Survival mode, where you play through all the levels consecutively and try to survive for as long as possible.
The game features a Missions mode with lots of training exercises and special challenges designed to improve your Lumines gameplay. These missions are a lot of fun and remind us of the creative modes in Tetris Effect, which is a great addition.
Playlists let you select the levels you want to play and arrange them in any order. You can create many custom playlists to match your mood or simply replay your favorite levels.
Loomiis are the latest version of the avatars from previous Lumines games. They’re highly customizable, letting you create a unique representation of yourself within the game and its online multiplayer space, with options for different outfits, banners, titles, and more.
The multiplayer area lets you try out Burst Battle, a one-on-one mode featured in the demo. You can also play Quick Burst, where the goal is to create the biggest Burst possible.
As a longtime Lumines player, I was really happy to see the Leaderboard League bring back the Time Attack mode! It’s exactly what we all know and love – you’re given a time limit and just try to clear as many blocks as possible. It’s a classic way to play and a great challenge!
There’s also a mode called Dig Down, where you try to clear blocks from the bottom of the screen as new ones constantly appear. It’s a challenging survival mode that really puts your skills to the test.
Every weekend, Loomii Live events will happen in the game’s multiplayer space, similar to the special weekend events in Tetris Effect. During these events, players team up to score points and unlock rewards when they hit a collective goal.
There’s a touch more detail on all of this information over on the PS Blog as well.
Considering all its different modes, challenges, and features, Lumines Arise appears to be the most complete game in the Lumines series to date.
