Initially criticized upon its release, Konami’s eFootball has managed to create a unique spot within the realm of free-to-play football games. It consistently receives updates enriching it with fresh content and features.
Originally titled Goal Storm for PlayStation 1, this lengthy game franchise is more commonly recognized as Winning 11 or Pro Evolution Soccer. It represents a thrilling advancement from the International Superstar Soccer series on the SNES, offering an equally enjoyable gaming experience.
And with that game turning 30 this year, the publisher has some big announcements planned.
The adventure begins through a special in-game occurrence, accessible until the 10th of July within eFootball. This unique event allows players to command “retro polygonal character models,” transporting them back to 1995.
The Nostalgia campaign provides an array of exclusive content, available for a limited time, which pays tribute to the original series and introduces fresh gameplay options for longtime and new enthusiasts alike.
One of the happenings includes an innovative game mode called “Time Jump Challenges.” In this exciting event, you’ll be tasked with scoring as many goals as you can before the countdown timer runs out, utilizing the previously mentioned character figures.
Additionally, there are fresh character cards introduced for Adriano, Roberto Baggio, and Gerard Piqué, each symbolizing their distinctive periods in the PES game.
Afterwards, we’ll have a unique live broadcast originating from Shibuya, Tokyo, where significant updates such as fresh in-game partnerships and information about our 30th anniversary festivities will be unveiled.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Konami’s promise for years – the long-anticipated addition of a single-player Master League in eFootball. My hopes are high, but given the game’s intense focus on its Dream Team gacha-style mode, I must admit, I’m not entirely optimistic about its arrival.
Regardless of which game we play now, there’s always a longing for the traditional Pro Evolution Soccer campaigns. Although Career mode in EA Sports FC has been enhanced, it hasn’t quite recaptured the essence of Master League, and we hope to see its return – more so as the series commemorates its 30th anniversary.
“Did you try out eFootball since its less-than-perfect debut? What do you think about the design of the classic, retro character models? Do they remind you fondly of football games from the PlayStation 1 era when you comment?
