The *Real Housewives* series, largely available on Peacock, has often faced legal issues, frequently stemming from the personal lives of the cast members and their partners, or from the production companies themselves. Now, Todd Nepola, the ex-husband of former *Real Housewives of Miami* star Alexia Nepola, is taking legal action against Bravo and NBCUniversal, and he has specific reasons for doing so.
Todd Nepola has officially stated his plan to sue for defamation, claiming Bravo, NBCUniversal, and Purveyors of Pop Productions created false storylines about his financial problems. He’s seeking $11 million in damages. According to TheWrap, the lawsuit alleges the companies exaggerated or fabricated events for the show, arguing the franchise relies on manufactured drama when natural conflict isn’t present.
The *Real Housewives of Miami* first aired on Bravo in 2011, but went on a break after three seasons. It later returned on Peacock for seasons four and five, and then moved back to traditional television starting with season six. According to Alex Nepola, false statements about his financial situation appeared during seasons six and seven. He alleges that the television networks used his image and likeness in various episodes without his permission, as stated in his legal complaint.
As a fan, I’m really disappointed to see ‘RHOM’ repeatedly airing what I believe are untrue and damaging statements about Romain. It feels like they’re intentionally using his name and image to hurt his reputation, especially within the Miami business world. It’s clear they should have known these false claims would seriously harm his career, business opportunities, and relationships with people in the community. It’s just not right.
Todd Nepola’s lawsuit details his marriage to Alexia, which began in December 2021 and ended in divorce finalized this past March. The suit, filed in Florida, claims Nepola was frustrated with being publicly associated with negative rumors about Alexia and simply wanted to be her husband, not a subject of public drama. He reportedly reached a breaking point after tolerating what he considered to be slanderous statements for some time.

The latest season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City started strong, and surprisingly, I didn’t even notice Lisa Barlow’s absence. It makes you wonder if the show can succeed without her.
Both Bravo and NBC have faced lawsuits over the Real Housewives shows, and individual cast members have also been involved in legal battles. Recently, NeNe Leakes, a former star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, sued her employers in 2022, claiming they allowed a harmful work environment. In 2023, Candiace Dillard Bassett, previously on The Real Housewives of Potomac, was sued for publicly discussing alleged intimate acts involving her co-star Ashley Darby’s ex-husband, Michael.
Todd Nepola is not only seeking $11 million from NBCUniversal and Bravo for using his image and harming his business, but he’s also requesting a jury trial. He wants a permanent legal order to stop the companies from using his name or likeness without permission. As of now, NBCUniversal and Bravo haven’t publicly responded to these claims.
The latest season of *The Real Housewives of Miami* has finished filming and moved to its reunion special. The first part has already aired, and the second part will be shown on Bravo on October 9th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time as part of the network’s 2025 programming.
