Red Dead Redemption 2’s Spiderweb Mystery Continues With Discovery of Bird Carvings

A scavenger hunt started earlier this month in Red Dead Redemption 2 has picked up steam. Players were following clues towards Dodd’s Bluff, but now it seems the mystery is heating up. YouTuber Strange Man, along with help from the game’s community, believes the acoustic instruments found during the hunt might be connected to the roof of Fort Wallace. Specifically, a community member discovered a pair of bird carvings that Strange Man highlights in a new video.

I remember when people first thought those strange markings in the game were just errors – it was so cool when data miners proved they were actually put there on purpose! Sadly, we haven’t found much new stuff since then. A YouTuber pointed out something really interesting though: the carvings seem to be leading us to a large body of water up north in the Calumet Ravine. And get this – the water’s shaped kinda like a bird with its wings spread! Even cooler, that same area is near the Giant’s cave, and there’s a bunch of birds living around there too. It feels like everything’s connected, and I’m really hoping it leads to something big!

The mystery seems to have stalled for now, but most of the video recaps the scavenger hunt’s progress. It started when players found a spider symbol carved into a telegraph pole in Red Dead Redemption 2. By placing this symbol on the game map, players identified potential locations in Lemoyne and New Hanover where they could find further clues. Eventually, they discovered spider webs on several telegraph poles, each decorated with bird feathers.

Right where the carving and map meet, there’s a large spider web carefully hidden in the trees. This web had shapes resembling the letter ‘N’ and a symbol for a telegraph pole. Following this clue, players looked north of the web to a telegraph pole. Shooting the correct pole revealed the letter ‘W’ and carvings of five more poles.

So, I found another hidden carving in this new area. This one had ‘NW’ on it, along with a picture of a guitar. That was a pretty clear hint to head northwest, and it led me straight to Fort Wallace. Once I got there, I spotted a guitar pointing up to one of the fort’s towers. I climbed up, found another guitar, and that one pointed me to the tower’s roof. And that’s where I finally found those bird carvings everyone was looking for!

This mystery has been captivating to watch unfold, and Rockstar Games hasn’t offered much official information, letting the community investigate on its own. Be aware that some clues may contain spoilers if you’re following along. Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players with PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S can play the game through backwards compatibility while they wait for a possible next-gen upgrade.
