Rockstar Games is busy finishing up Grand Theft Auto 6, expected to launch November 19th, but they also seem to be preparing a physical release of Red Dead Redemption for the PlayStation 5. According to Dealabs insider Billbil-kun, they’re working on versions for both PS5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
The game will be available physically on May 7th for €34.99, which is cheaper than the digital version priced at €49.99. The PS5 physical release includes the full game on a disc. For the Nintendo Switch 2, the game will be a code-in-a-box, meaning players will need to redeem a code from the box on the eShop to download and play.
Similar to the digital release of Red Dead Redemption, the physical copy will also come with both the main game and the Undead Nightmare expansion. Undead Nightmare offers a separate, unique story set in a spooky, fantastical version of the Wild West, where players battle zombies and other strange creatures.
Originally launched in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption has seen releases on several platforms over the years. It came to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023, with Xbox One players relying on backwards compatibility to play. A PC version followed in October 2024, and then in December 2025, the game became available on current-generation consoles: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The latest version includes several improvements, such as support for 4K resolution and a smooth 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The Nintendo Switch 2 can also run at 60 FPS and utilizes DLSS technology to improve image quality. Plus, it offers mouse controls with its new Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Red Dead Redemption tells the story of John Marston in 1911, who is forced to track down his old gang members by the federal government. This quest takes him across the American West, and even into Mexico. The game explores the fading days of the Wild West as modern civilization takes hold.
