A game originally released on Xbox 360 in 2009 is being updated and will be available this summer on August 20th. It’s coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X – basically all current gaming systems, as well as some older ones. Unfortunately, the game won’t be released on Xbox One, which may be frustrating for players who still use that console.
MAGES is exciting fans of science fiction visual novels by releasing a remake of their 2009 hit, Steins;Gate. Called Steins;Gate RE:BOOT, the game was first announced in October 2024 and will be available starting August 20th. This is actually the second remake of the beloved Steins;Gate – the first was Steins;Gate Elite, released in 2018 for PlayStation Vita, PS3, and PS4. Steins;Gate RE:BOOT features updated graphics, a smoother user interface, and a fresh take on the story.
A 2009 Cult Classic Sci-Fi Game
When Steins;Gate first launched in 2009 for the Xbox 360, it didn’t gain much attention. Many Western gamers on that console weren’t even aware of the game, as it was initially only released in Japan and never officially made available on Xbox 360 outside of Japan. It wasn’t until 2014 that a PC version came to the West, followed by console releases for PS3 and PS Vita in 2015.
The game received positive reviews, scoring 87 on Metacritic, and was popular enough to spawn a sequel, Steins;Gate 0, in 2015, and an anime series in 2018. Interestingly, this game is actually a continuation of a story that began with Chaos;Head in 2008, which wasn’t released in English until 2022 when it became available on Nintendo Switch worldwide.
The game puts you in the shoes of a diverse group of students who’ve built something incredible – a device that can send messages to the past. This lets them change history, and as players, you get to influence the story and decide which of the multiple endings you’ll achieve.
We don’t yet know the price of the upcoming reboot from MAGES and Spike Chunsoft, which is scheduled to launch this summer.
