A remake of a little-known game from the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox is receiving good reviews. Players who remember those consoles might recall a lot of unusual games being released back then. The early 2000s saw a different kind of game – not quite huge blockbusters, but more than just small indie titles. That middle ground has largely disappeared as the gaming market now mostly focuses on either massive AAA games or smaller independent projects. While we’re seeing a slight return of ‘AA’ games, they often feel like AAA games from older consoles.
If you were a fan of the puzzle strategy game Ghost Master, originally released in 2004 by Spiral House and Empire Interactive, there’s good news! Developer Sick Puppies has released a remake called Ghost Master: Resurrection. This is the first time the game has been re-released after over twenty years, and early signs suggest it’s a solid remake, though it hasn’t received much mainstream attention. While it doesn’t have a Metacritic score yet due to a lack of professional reviews, player reviews are generally positive. You can find it on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. However, user reviews aren’t available for the Switch or Xbox versions. On PS5, it currently has a 4.3 out of 5-star rating based on 10 reviews. It’s available on Steam as well, where it’s been in Early Access for a year, and has garnered 281 reviews with an 87% approval rating.
This remake hasn’t gotten much attention yet, but fans of the original should definitely take a look. It’s available for a great price – just $20 on PC and $25 on consoles.
The game first launched on PC in 2003, but most players probably know it from the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox versions released in 2004. This is the first time it’s ever been available on a Nintendo platform, which makes this Switch release especially interesting. While it won’t bring back memories for Nintendo fans, it might appeal to those who want to play it on the go. It also works on the Steam Deck, though it hasn’t been officially verified for that platform.
