The latest installment in the Resident Evil series is coming together, and initial previews hint at a grittier, more frightening experience. Director Zach Cregger recently released the first trailer, offering a glimpse of a harsh and challenging survival narrative.
Resident Evil movie trailer released at CinemaCon
Sony showcased the upcoming Resident Evil movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Director Zach Cregger personally presented a first look at the footage, giving fans a preview of his take on the well-known video game series. The film is currently slated for release on September 18, 2026 (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
The trailer focuses on a single, terrifying night. Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier who finds himself in a dangerous fight for survival. In a heartbreaking call, he tells a loved one he may not survive. We then see disturbing images – bodies being pulled along and blood falling from the ceiling – as he struggles to escape.
Cregger, a longtime fan of the games, wanted the movie to capture the same spirit. He believes the story translates well to film, describing it as inherently visual and assuring fans they’ll recognize that influence. He also focused on keeping the pace quick and exciting, telling the story in one continuous, high-energy sequence without any flashbacks or time skips.
The Resident Evil series, created by Capcom, has consistently been a hit with both gamers and movie fans. While the earlier movies, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich, earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, the 2021 reboot didn’t perform well. This new film is therefore a crucial opportunity to revitalize the franchise.
The movie stars Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson. This new version of the story focuses on realistic characters and delivering genuine scares, aiming to recapture the feel of the original films.
