Previous Resident Evil movies haven’t always been great, making it tough to get excited about new ones. However, the positive reactions to the trailer at CinemaCon, combined with the people involved, suggest this latest Resident Evil film could actually be good – and it now has a confirmed release date.
Many fans share our excitement for the new zombie movie directed by Weapons’ Zach Cregger, and even Nick Apostolides, who plays Leon Kennedy, feels hopeful about it, though he’s taking a wait-and-see approach.
Now that the release date is official, a website for the new Resident Evil movie is live. Currently, it only features the logo, release date, and confirmation that the movie will be available in IMAX.
Resident Evil Requiem is currently very popular, having already sold over 7 million copies since its release. Director Koshi Nakanishi even shared a photo of cakes inspired by the game on social media.

Capcom, the team behind the game, is planning more content for Requiem with an upcoming downloadable expansion that will add to the story.
The game received a photo mode update in March, and a new mini-game centered around combat is coming soon. While details are still emerging, it’s currently unknown if this will be similar to the popular ‘Mercenaries’ mode featured in past Resident Evil titles.

Hey, so this site uses a thing called Google reCAPTCHA to help keep things secure – you know, to prove I’m a real person and not a bot. Before it loads anything, it’s asking if it’s okay to use cookies and stuff. If I click ‘Accept and continue,’ it’ll load the reCAPTCHA and let me move forward. Basically, it just needs my permission before it starts working.
The Resident Evil movie, directed by Craig Cregger, is scheduled to hit theaters on September 18, 2026.
It’s unclear exactly what the movie will be about, though it has plenty of source material from the various Resident Evil games. One thing’s for certain: seeing those terrifying T-Virus creatures on a giant IMAX screen will likely be a truly disturbing experience.
September is still quite a ways off, so don’t forget to explore the many video games coming out in 2026 and later to keep yourself entertained!
